Research Day 2016 at Morristown Medical Center

Welcome to CDS Monitoring Tools, website.

This webpage is dedicated to showcasing my doctoral project. My scholarly work was focused on Controlled Dangerous Substance monitoring tools and their utilization by nurse practitioners. This led to the development of a New Jersey-specific Controlled Dangerous Substance agreement form. This work is making a contribution to the nation’s fight against the opioid epidemic while promoting safe, evidence-based practice for nurse practitioners. I encourage you to participate and contact me with questions, comments, and concerns.

CDS AGREEMENT FORM

Agreement forms serve as a form of informed consent between the patient and the provider. Literature review revealed that the following factors are elemental for a  well-established Agreement Form:

  1. risk factors associated with taking controlled substances including: physical dependence, overdose, abuse

  2. consequences if terms of the agreement are violated

  3. use of one pharmacy for filling of controlled substances

  4. explanation that diversion is against the law

  5. importance of keeping controlled substance safe

  6. use of one prescriber for controlled substance medications

  7. requirements of random drug testing
